Recovery Time For Mom

This is a personal blog about my Pack who has helped me and is still helping me through my recovery in the past 9 months with two surgery I have been through. Nine months ago I had a total knee replacement and just six weeks ago I had a total hip replacement.

Usually I would walk them at least 5 times a week for exercise. They have a doggie dog to go out and do their business so the walk is for them to exercise and socialize.

It has been amazing to me how much time they spend with me in bed as I am recovering. At first when I came home from the hospital I was using the walker. They were all respectful and just walked behind me as I made my way from the bed to where ever I went. Now I am usuing the cane and they still walk along side of me very respectful and not afraid of my helping tools.

Recovering can be lonely day after day in bed by yourself, but with the dogs by my side giving me their love it has been a great help to me mentally. When I am feeling down I really feel they sense it and will come a snuggle and give kisses.

New Reversible HRNESS

I found the cutest and easiest harness for My 6 Pack. It is a Reversible Harness. Two completely different designs on each side. Another good feature is it is narrow and it fits one of my male dogs that is built short and stocky. Usually when I would put a harness on him, Monty, it would rub his Pee Pee and he would not be comfortable. The colors are great and one side is pleather and the other is cotton. Loving Your Pets

Having 6 Shih Tzus has been an learning experience. It all started 7 years ago when I got my first Shih Tzu which is Monty. I knew I wanted to get a Shih Tzu so I went out to get a book to study the breed and my local pet shop just happened to have two little furry babies in the window. Well you know I came home with the book and the puppy. OMG they have to be the cutest puppies. Just one big Puff.

So now 7 years later I have my Six Pack. I have 4 girls and 2 boys. Monty and Kimi and two babies Duke and Duchess and then we also have Missy and Niki who is the last and the youngest.

Having the babies born in the house has to be one of the highlights of my life. It was amazing seeing them born. I did help Kimi deliver by opening the sacs and cutting the cords. I even took a maternity leave.

Having 6 can be expensive getting them groomed so I do all my own grooming. If you have a furry face pet you know when they drink water from a bowl you know what a mess that can be. So out of necessity my husband and I designed and developed what we call the Pet Water Post.

The Pet Water Post has to be the best products you can get for your furry face pets or any pet. Especially the furry faced ones because when they drink from the bowl their faces hold the water and they drip all over the floor. With the post they drink from a 32oz Lixit Bottle. The water goes in their mouth and not on the floor. So your pet gets clean, fresh, bug free at all times. The stands is about 25" tall with an opening to hold the bottle.

So as I started saying at the beginning of this blog, it has been a learing experience having 6 Shih Tzus. I have learned how to groom, how to help in the delivery of the birth of the babies, how to develope the perfect product for my Six Pack and the most important thing they have taught me is pure love. Simple love no strings attached. They are always there for you and ready to give love and ask for nothing. Ofcource the love is given right back to them by being their Pack Leader and guiding them, walking them, keeping them clean and feed and showing them off when ever I can.

Be a Pack Leader to your pets, they will love you for it.

Helpful Tip

Always carry a bottle of water to the dog park or run. You can often break up a fight by squirting the two dogs. They'll stop long enough for you to pull your dog out of harm's way. It also works when dogs get nuts while playing and need a quick time out to keep the play from escalating. I have one dog that is affaird of the big dogs, and she will bark at them which could cause too much excitment that could lead into a fight.
Always be aware of your sourrounds and where your dog is. I remember when my children were little I always use to say, "I need eyes in the front and back of your head to see what is going on" Things can happen very quickly.
Have fun with your pets and take them for a walk. Make sure the little ones have their harness on. It is much better for their necks.

Kissing Cousions

So here you have Raven and Summer. Yes they are family. Two brothers John and Joe own the two beauties. Raven, the Rottie belongs to Joe and Summer the Bull Dog belongs to John. Today they met for the first time at Johns house in Long Island. They got along very well and had a great time. Raven kept giving kisses to Summer. A good first meeting. The Perfect Walking Lead

Ok, so having 6 Shih Tzus can be at times a little crazy. But that only happens if you let it. In my case I have put in a lot of time with them, taking them to trainning classes at Pet Smart which was really good for them to be socialized. That is so important when you get a new puppy. The more you expose them to people, children the better rounded pets you will have. Work with your dogs, play with your dogs.

The next thing and also very important is walking your pets. This really puts you in control and you gain their respect. You must always be in the lead. You must be the Pack Leader. Whether walking one or three which is what I do, I walk three at a time. I call it the first shift and second shift. They know who is who. When I am ready to take them for their walk all I need to say is OK, First Shift and Monty, Kimi and Niki are sitting in front of the door ready to go. I put there Harness or Leash on and we are off. I make them sit while I open the door and when I say OK we are off.

Do the same thing over and over again and they will get the message. Remember dogs are very smart.

I just started to invent a new lead to walk them with. I think it is going to be amazing and easy to use. It is all one piece. The strap becomes the harness and the collar. It is easy to put on. I used it today for the first time on Duchess. She is the only one that I have that wants to lead all the time. This kept her right by my side and I was totally in controll of her pulling. I could not resist putting this picture up of her. She is full of expression and personality. The youngest of the Pack and always wants to be first. When I am giving them their cookies I make them all sit in a row and then I go down the line to each one calling out their names for a cookie. After Niki get hers she will move to the front of the line again. Always cutting the line . Too Funny.

Kimi on Vacation

This weekend my husband and I went to visit some friends in San Diego. We were just going to chill out at their house, nothing fancy so I decided to take one of my Shih Tzus with us.

Kimi being the best traveler she got to go with us. It was really nice being able to put all my energy into just one dog. She loved it. They had a great big fenced in yard so she was able to run free. When I took her for a walk down the road it was also nice. No cars there so she was also able to be off leash which I never do. She was really good and came back when I called so I felt good for her and me.

We went to the beach at sunset to see the sun set but NO DOGS ALLOWED on the beach so we found a place to get out and I just held her. It was overcast so we watch the Sufers for a while and then returned home for a night cap. It was very enjoyable for all.

Having six dogs to feed can be trying at times. This past week one of my Shih Tzus had to be put on special food due to stones in her bladder, so I put them all on the same food. My trick was to add one tablespoon of the can meat the same as the dry and mix well. To my suprise they all at without stopping. I can not get the food down fast enough. Now feeding time is done in a flash and I know that everyone ate. I use to feed only dry food and they would eat but not with enjoyment. By adding that one tablespoon of meat to the dish they are really enjoying their food. Try it they will like it.

Just Pets

When you have 6 Pets it is a full time responsibility taking care of their needs. This week it was Duke and Duchess and Missy who went to the Vet for their Rabi shots and check-up.

Well we got the shots OK and we found out Missy has stones in her bladder and an infection in her urine and in her left ear. This is the 3 time she has gotten this. Her body make these stones and then they have to come out. So this Friday she goes in for Surgery.

After surgery she will have to be on a new kind of food to help prevent this again. Let hope it works. So I am putting them all on the same food. It will be easier to feed them all the same kind of food. When one has something different they all want it. Just like children.

Missy is the heavest in the Pack at 22 lbs. She is a sneak eater. When no one is around she will clean all the dishes. So now to help her with her weight no food let out. I put the 6 dishes down and wait for 20 minutes. If know one eats up come the plates till super time.

Happy Birthday Monty

Today Monty is 7 years old. How exciting it has been to have him and the rest of the Pack. It truly is an adventure having 6 Shih Tzus. Having a Pack really makes you focus on the important things in life. They make our lives happy and full of love.

Today is Saturday and a day of giving baths. Today Duke and Duchess got their SPA DAY. We start by filling the tub with nice warm water. Add a little shampoo and let then soak their paws so their nails can be cut. Then I put the ear power in their ears and clean then out. Next we brush the teeth. I have been using Gauze with tooth paste. I can get away with that better than the brush. Once all the details are done we get right into the shampoo and condition mode. Rinse well, towell dry and off to the garage where I have my grooming equiptment and blow dryer. When they are nice and dry I give them their Hair Cuts and they are done. Too bad they can't stay clean for more than a week. With Six to do it seem like I am always giving some one a bath. Come by and see all the cute harnesses and dresses we have on our site.
